April is a productive month in The Torridon Garden

April is perhaps the busiest and most productive month on the Torridon Kitchen Garden calendar.

Not only are the seedlings sown in March taking off but the trees in the fruit trees in the orchards, the shrubs and perennials are starting to come to life!

We’ve had a first taste of summer sunshine and fingers crossed there’s more to come! (Wishful thinking) Lets not get too carried away yet, we do live in the western highlands! Having said that, thing’s do seem to be brightening up and the air isn’t so bitter. It is now crucial seedlings are transferred into the Polytunnel for the next stage of their growth. It’s getting easier to imagine the tunnel filled with crispy courgettes, mouth-watering grapes, a variety of radishes and the peculiar looking Kohl Rabi!

It won’t be too long until Chef Ross is provided with a plethora of home grown ingredients to experiment with in the Kitchen… Yum!
