Ross Aitchison - Director of Operations (5 years)
What brought you to the job/area?
I had always known of The Torridon and its stature within the industry, and I also got engaged 20 minutes from the hotel and spent that night at the hotel before I worked here. When I relocated back to the Highlands with my family I wanted to work at the top level so The Torridon fitted that bill.
What does your job entail on a day to day basis?
My job ultimately is to oversee that all guests that come to The Torridon Resort enjoy their experience. I have daily contact with all the departments to ensure smooth running of the operations and if there are any issues during the day I am there to support the team to sort them. With a large amount of live-in staff the responsibility of their pastoral care also lands with me, at the Torridon we have more staff accommodation than letting bedrooms.
Tell us your favourite thing about your job?
I suppose the variety of the job is my favourite part of the job as we have so many different parts of the business to look after from a bore hole water supply to looking after cows and pigs. This is what keeps the job interesting and also the unpredictability of my role as I have to think outside the box a lot and on my feet.
What is your favourite thing about the area?
The location of the Hotel. I live 1 hour and 15 minutes away and every day I am blown away by the drive to the Hotel from the scenery, to the ever-changing colours on the mountains and the wild life. I firmly believe Torridon is one the world’s most unique locations to visit.
Are there any ‘must-sees’ for visitors to the area?
Bealach na Bà
Inverewe Gardens
Red Point Beach
