North Coast 500 – Planning Your Trip Round Scotland’s NC500

The North Coast 500 (NC500) is the brand new touring route that aims to bring together the best of the Scottish Highlands.

The media have named it Scotland’s own Route 66, but really where else can compare with the culture and heritage of Scotland’s northern coastal route? On the NC500, you will see some of our most famous landmarks such as the magnificent Suilven, Dunrobin Castle or the beaches at Achmelvich and Dornoch.

What route does the NC500 take?

The official North Coast 500 route begins in Inverness and heads west towards Kyle of Lochalsh, up the scenic west coast to Durness and across the most northerly stretch to John O’Groats then back down to Inverness again, covering a total of 500 miles.

What is there to see and do along the North Coast 500?

We are particularly fond of the Wester Ross area and the rugged coastline that provides an array of activities and beautiful landscapes to explore. From stunning beaches like Applecross Beach and Mellon Udrigle Beach, to the beautiful Ardessie Waterfalls, you will not be short of places to explore.

The Highlands offer a fantastic natural playground and we have our own Torridon Activities team ready to help you discover the best of the local mountains and lochs. Another way is to enjoy the landscape from the sea and Torridon Sea Tours offers daily boat tours on Loch Torridon. Perhaps you are more interested in Scottish Heritage? Beinn Eighe NNR Visitor Centre is a great place to learn more about Scotland and the surrounding area. For those of a sporty inclination, Lochcarron Golf Club is one of several courses to be found along the North Coast 500.

Where can you stay on the NC500?

While doing the NC500 route, there is no place better to stay than The Torridon Hotel where we will provide you with all the luxury and fine dining you would require. The Torridon Inn will also act as a great base for exploring Wester Ross, with comfortable rooms and great traditional Scottish pub food. You will always receive a warm welcome here.
