It is now getting a good feed of sugar syrup aprox 12 x 1 kg sugar bags mixed with warm water to dissolve and then placed into a plastic bucket with a few holes punched in the snap on lid then inverted over the hole in the crown board (cover board on top of beehive.)
We will be treating the hive for the parasite Varroa which is endemic in all honey bee colony’s in the U.K. We then use Oxalic acid crystals mixed with sugar syrup and the liquid is trickled between the frames of bees, this will be done at the end of November when the hive is brood-less, it is an organic treatment and has no ill effect on the bees.
This year we hope to have harvested around 40lbs of honey, from heather, rape seed and clear.
