Whether you are a marathon runner, cyclist, iron man fanatic or a mountaineer there are events galore in 2012 in the wilds of Torridon. First up is the Torridon Winter walking festival 3,4,5 March with Liathach, Beinne Eighe and Beinn Alligin all featuring over the weekend. There are also low level walks and a winter skills day. Next up is the 14 & 15 April which is a mountain marathon covering anything from 40-50 kms over 2 days of extreme competing and running. Different class races are available but not for the feint hearted. For the cyclists among you The Bealach is the UK’s biggest road climb at 2053ft (626m) from sea level in just 6mls (10k) and the 43 mile Bealach Beag on 12th May will test your legs to the limit. The mother of all events this year will be the Celtman Extreme Scottish Triathlon on 23rd June. A mere 3.8km open swim in Loch Torridon, 200km road cycle from Sheildaig to Achnasheen and then a 42km run taking in the Coulin pass and Beinn Eighe. Torridon activities are offering safety support during the event and we are already hosting a number of the competitors at The Torridon. One of our team, Ryan Maclean, is already in training for the event and fund raising will soon be starting . On 1st September there is the 2nd of the cycle events Bealach Mor, the original route set up and 90 miles long. Finally, after the success of last year, there will be the 2nd Torridon Walking Festival 8,9,10 September, that will again be offering all the major munros in the area and low level walks. Good luck to all those who compete or partake in any of the events.
