This week Chris, Allan and I (Richard) have been on the Whole Hog Challenge where we managed to raise over £500 for the Marie Curie Cancer Care. Last year the race was run in the sun; this year we arrived and found that it was raining and windy and very cold! Not ideal running conditions.
We set a good pace to start and were pleased with our progress until we realised that filming our progress was not going to be so easy this year. Our lenses had steamed up in our pockets and every time we looked up they would get splattered with rain.
When we got to the hill things began to go downhill for Allan. When we went up, we were fine and coming down he showed us the best way was on your backside, sliding! But as we rounded the base ready to kick on, he pulled up short with cramp.
The further we went the worse it got for him. Luckily, just before the plunge pool, one of the marshals said told him she was a masseuse and he received treatment.
However things didn’t improve much. We were determined we would finish together and helped him get through to the end, finishing in 42nd position (not last as many thought).
I would like to thank all of our friends and family and companies including the Lovat Arms Hotel for sponsoring us. Anyone still willing to sponsor us can do so by visiting the website www.thetorridon.com/activities and clicking on donate. The page will be live until November 2011.
I would also like to thank The Torridon for their support and use of vehicles and personnel for us to be able to take part.
