The Torridon is a staunch supporter of the Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) in Scotland. Here, Luke, one of our staff, describes how he got on when he applied for a HIT scholarship.
In September 2013 I was given the chance to apply for a HIT Scotland scholarship through my job with The Torridon.
The first part of the process was deciding which scholarship would assist me further my skills in my current role. The other part was taking the guidance of Rohaise who assisted and supported me from the start to the finish.
I decided, with Rohaise, that the experience scholarship would the best one for me.
The application was quite straight forward with the first part being an essay of 300 words on why I wanted to apply and what I wanted to achieve from it. The scary part was yet to come with a wait of nearly two months before I received an email to say I had reached the interview stages and would I be able to come to the conference in Glasgow at the beginning of February?
The day was fantastic with several guest speakers including Raymond Blanc. At the end of the last speech all the names were announced and to my delight I was on stage with all the other winners for 2013.
The scholarship is tailored to my needs and focussed on what I want to learn more about within my job. For me learning about wine is very important. I don’t know where I am going yet but I am looking forward to the challenge.
