Secrets of a Wedding Planner: How to Arrange the Perfect Highland Wedding

Weddings at The Torridon are always an intimate affair and over the years of organising them I have become increasingly involved in every aspect of making my bride and groom’s day special and unique. We offer the most intimate wedding possible from just for the bride and groom to up to 50 guests and the organisational details are just as involved for two as 50.

To organise the perfect wedding I must first understand what the bride and groom want and expect for their day. The first meeting is so important to really get into the detail of what they wish and what we can offer and my mantra at this stage is “with enough notice, anything is possible”. For most couples, the top eight priorities to organise for their weddings are:
• Dresses and Suits
• Guest list
• Photographer ( you will have your pictures for a long time)
• Flowers
• Menu choices (something all your guests will enjoy)
• Wine and Champagne choice
• Entertainment for your reception
• Cake
We have gone way beyond this list on many occasions. For one wedding I organised kilts and full Scottish regalia for all the gentlemen – no mean feat when you are dealing with people from all corners of the world.

Having said that we can offer everything with notice, it is important to recognise sometimes that a bride or groom would like to organise things themselves and if this is the case I’m always happy to assist, offer advice given my knowledge of local suppliers and liaise on the day with all the different suppliers to bring everything together.

People often ask what I enjoy most about planning weddings. The look on a couple’s faces when their friends and family arrive at the hotel is just wonderful as are the expressions of their friends and family at the moment they make their vows.

There is a tangible sense of achievement when months and in some cases years of planning all come together and everything flows seamlessly.

With only seven fully exclusive weddings a year and on average 10 smaller weddings I get to know the couples on a personal level and many stay with touch with me.

Even 5 years on I still get cards at Christmas and emails to keep me up to date with what is happening in their families. Every wedding is different and that is why I enjoy what I do here at The Torridon so much.
