Over the last 2 months the team here at The Torridon have been carefully and (not so) secretly working away at a little project we are proud to announce – the launch of our own Gin (brand), The Torridon Arcturus Gin!
My role as bar supervisor here at The Torridon has allowed me to have a hands-on role in the development of the Arcturus Gin. I was able to help the team when we were foraging and collecting the botanicals from the resort. I also participated in tasting the samples of the pure botanicals and preliminary recipes that we had to choose from for the final selection. A tough job I must say!
My key role however, was the development of the ‘signature serve’ for the Arcturus Gin. I created two ideal serves, both expressing slightly different aspects of the gin. One is a crisp refreshing G&T, using the light Walter Gregor’s Tonic as the mixer, and garnished with spiced de-hydrated orange slices (but this will change to reflect the changing seasons of the highlands). This a refreshing way to enjoy the Arturus Gin, letting all the botanicals express themselves in full force, but mostly the crisp sea kelp notes.
The other is a variation on a dry martini, using Great British Vermouth and a dash of chartreuse, to lift up the herbal and floral notes, garnished with some slightly pickled samphire to give you an essence of the salty sea loch that surrounds us here at The Torridon.
I hope you enjoy these and make sure you ask for one at the bar!
