Colleen, resident whisky expert at The Torridon opens a new bottle in the whisky bar.
Imagine my excitement when I learned that Ardbeg were releasing a new whisky strangely called Ardbog. After reading the official website and watching the promotional film, I thought “great, let’s buy a bottle and see what happens”.
Today was the day. Ardbog is comprised of 60% ex-Bourbon stock and 40% Manzanilla sherry butts before being bottled at 52.1% so its flavours are interesting to say the least. Ardbog celebrates the heritage of peat on Islay and the ways in which peat has played such a major role in this iconic dram.
Nose: Smokey, salty notes with toffee caramel (similar to Bowmore’s tempest)
Palate: Salty peanuts, huge bursts of smoke, more earth than the original Ardbeg 10
Verdict: Buy a bottle, this whisky is fantastic.
