Piotr Kowalski is the new barman at our famous Whisky & Gin Bar here at The Torridon. Poitr has taken some time out to write about some of his favourite whiskies.
I think that most of the people working in whisky bars around the world find this one question rather difficult to answer – “What is your favourite whisky?”
Being in Scotland for almost 6 years and having an opportunity to visit many great whisky bars I have to say the answer for me is – cask strength! Why?
Cask strength whisky guarantees not only shock to one’s senses after first sip, but also a chance to discover layers of flavours impossible to register while dealing with product diluted to standard 40 percent. It also allows us to personalise our whisky by diluting it to our own preference by adding few drops of water. Pure alchemy.
I am also quite fond of peated malts finished (aged for last two or three years) in sherry cask. It makes whisky more defined, beautifully rounded and pleasantly but not overly sweet with a leathery note on the finish. Making it a perfect companion to an after-dinner cigar.
For non-smokers it works well with most of the chocolate cakes and fudges. If you don’t believe please pop in to our whisky bar and try these beautiful Glengoyne single cask malts. Both distilled in 1972 aged in sherry but, bottled at cask strength offer a unique time travel experience.
Hope to see you soon!
