Today, we speak to Rogan Galea, Food and Beverage Manager at our 1887 restaurant to find out about his first 6 months at The Torridon !
What is your role and how long have you been here at The Torridon? – I am F&B Duty manager of the 1887 restaurant. I’ve now been at the Torridon for just over 6 months, having started in late November last year.
Tell us a bit about your professional journey here at The Torridon? – I Started under the watchful eye of Simon, our previous resort F&B manager who helped lay the groundwork and trained me in the important areas of the role. Once Simon had left, I started to find the areas that I didn’t know and have worked on improving my skills to continuously developed. Now at 6 months I am more confident in my position and enjoy facing new challenges every day.
What key training opportunities have shaped your skillset? The leadership and management training has been a great help for me in learning key skills and abilities that I didn’t have before coming to The Torridon. Our House champagne (Moet) training and wine training from De Burgh has provided me and the team with the knowledge to confidently upsell products to guests.
What do you love so far about the Torridon? – I love the team atmosphere, not just of my team at 1887 whom I work with every day, but the whole Torridon team, there is a real sense of a second family that you join when starting at the Torridon.
What does a perfect day at The Torridon look like to you? The perfect day is an early start with sunshine, and seeing the sun hit Liathach on the way to work, then being able to enjoy the local walks and trails while the sun is shining, finally being able to either relax in the Beinn bar with friends or working with the team to help provide magical experiences for guests in the 1887 restaurant.
Do you have any advice for people coming to work at The Torridon? – my advice would be open to and embrace the culture and the lifestyle up in the Highlands, there might be the odd less than perfect day, but it will always get better, and The Torridon leadership team will always take notice of the hard work and effort that is put in.
