Charlie Burrow - Senior Activity Instructor
What brought you to The Torridon?
The location and the job role. I wanted to progress to a senior role in the outdoors and I had also been looking at relocating to the North West prior to the job being advertised. The area is incredible. There are limitless opportunities for climbing, mountain biking, hiking and kayaking. There is also a nice community of like-minded people so you can always find someone to explore the area with.
Tell us your favourite thing about your job?
Its hard to pick one thing! Being able to share my passion of the outdoors with a huge range of clients is great. The guests we get are always blown away by it all and its great to see. There is also a really nice vibe about the staff at the Torridon. Everyone looks out for each other and gets on really well.
What has it been like relocating to The Torridon?
I was already living in the Highlands, but it wasn’t quite as remote as Torridon. It’s certainly not for everyone, but I really like it. It’s something you have to get used to but I think if you make the effort to change how you live and to give up certain conveniences then it’s a great experience and you’ll be better for it.
What do you do on your days off?
Explore! Biking, climbing, walking – depends on the weather.
Do you have any advice or words of wisdom to someone coming to work at The Torridon as an activity instructor?
Make the most of your surroundings. You can get some really long days in the summer so make the most of your evenings after work and on your days off. Find some people who like doing the same things as you as do as much as possible in the time you’re here! You’ll progress as an instructor and a climber/mountaineer/biker/kayaker to a massive degree, if you put in the graft.
