Meet the Torridon Team – Ashley

Ashley - Activities Instructor

What is your role here at The Torridon?

I was lucky to join the team this year in April, since being here I’ve been involved in all kinds of sessions and tasks to help the day to day running of this small team. I perform kit checks and maintenance on the kit as well as running the activities.

What brought you to the job/area?

The chance to get out in the mountains and develop myself as an Outdoors Guide/ Instructor. It was not the midges for sure!

What does your job entail on a day to day basis?

Being outside in all the weathers! Also the running of activity session on our program. I also speak with guests of the hotel and also passers-by about general enquiries when they are interested in our activities and what is on offer.

What is your favourite thing about the job?

That has to be the fact that I spend 90% of my time outside taking different people out on session. Giving them the chance to try something new that they hopefully will want to go and try again.

Are there any ‘must sees’ for visitors to the area?

Definitely the Isle of Skye.

Do you have any advice for someone coming to work at The Torridon?

Expect and pack for the worse (weather wise) and hope for the best.
