In this Blog, Marcy tells us about her work experience at The Torridon and what it was like to spend a week at The resort!
During my week at The Torridon, I was able to work in the Front of House, Housekeeping, Bo&Muc and 1887 and loved that I was able to experience all of these departments and learn such a breadth of skills. What I found to be most important in all departments was adhering to The Torridon’s five star standards, from table settings and perfectly made beds to the signature Torridon pillow chop all through the warm and inviting hotel.
In housekeeping I learnt how to make rooms ready for guests and check that everything is up to standards, and in Front of House I was shown the hotel management system which displays important details regarding guest arrivals and when their room is ready. I found it useful to work in Front of House on my first day as I had the opportunity to learn about the hotel itself. In Bo & Muc and 1887 I improved my waitress skills at lunch service and learnt about what 1887 does towards the end of breakfast service and how they prepare for dinner service.
Living in the staff accommodation, I was truly able to immerse myself into the experience of working at the hotel. I met so many of the kind staff outside of my shifts at meals and loved taking advantage of my free time by going on beautifully scenic walks and exploring the amazing hotel grounds, such as the Kitchen Garden. In just under a week I learnt so much and developed so many skills, I would highly recommend this experience to anyone considering a career in hospitality and am very grateful that I had this opportunity.
