As Autumn begins at The Torridon there’s no better time to head outside and enjoy the perfect flavour pairing between whisky and cigar. We asked Shane our resident whisky expert to tell us all about what should be considered when making your selection:
As The Torridon Whisky selection is known to boast one dram for each day of the year, we have been training our team to recommend unusual or forgotten pairings that enhance your enjoyment of the whisky and other ingredients such as local ales, cheese, seafood, dessert and even cigars.
Telling you an ideal pairing isn’t our to go to position because every customer’s sense of taste is unique and very personal. Instead we aim to open doors to our guests and tickle their curiosity and allow them to begin a journey to find thier personal perfect pairing.
For instance if a Cohiba Robusto was to be paired with a Single Malt, intensities and flavours would need to be balanced to ensure enjoyment.
As this is a medium to full bodied cigar with deep and rich spicy notes starting with a peppery tone, followed by hints of sweet yet round honey flavours and ending on a creamy cocoa touch our recommendation would be to open a vintage sherry cask door for this pairing with our Glengoyne 25, featuring a sweet leathery and red fruits nose, soft oakiness, cinnamon and stewed fruits on the palate and a very long spicy finish.
