Every element of The Torridon’s 1887 restaurant perfectly mirrors its exquisite surroundings. The partnership of the creative minds behind the restaurant form an enigmatic relationship of design and cuisine, both exceptional and unique, but perfectly combined to create our outstanding Torridon experience. The Torridon’s strong belief in its team and the power that comes from collaboration has resulted in a dining experience unlike any other, with a simple menu contrasted with bold design to reflect our proud Scottish heritage.
Conceived by owner Rohaise Rose-Bristow, 1887’s design embraces comfort and quality whilst maintaining our Victorian history. An eclectic mix of colour including reds, oranges, greens and blues feel sumptuous and opulent, while bespoke pieces sourced from British artisans contrast heritage prints and geometric patterns with organic materials. Panoramic Crittall windows allow the outdoors to flow into the restaurant, framing the beguiling views of the Munros and loch where your menu is sourced.
Working in harmony with the landscape, head chef of 1887, Paul Green is inspired by the natural larder of the Scottish Highlands and Islands, working with some of the best suppliers in the North West and showcasing the world-class ingredients in their purest and tastiest forms. Sample sumptuous plates from the tasting and table d’hôte menus, such as freshly-caught dressed crab, caught just six miles away, paired with zingy fennel and dill, velvety braised oxtail ravioli with a rich beef consommé or creamy Torridon Farm beef tartare accompanied by mustard and nasturtium.
Prior to dining, we urge you to explore the Torridon Farm and Kitchen Garden to further discover the origins of some of your chosen dishes – you might even happen upon Paul and the resort’s team creating new menu items with the daily yield. Wander through the diverse variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices in our two-acre plot, and immerse yourself in the gastronomical soul of the Highlands. Visit the Torridon Farm, home to fluffy Highland coos, mixed-breed pigs and chickens, and enjoy seeing them in natural habitats or help feed them leftover vegetables from the kitchens.
Every moment from check-in to departure is created to allow you to sample what this great land has to offer, striving to exceed even the greatest of expectations by creating a refined yet relaxed atmosphere with Scottish hospitality at its heart. With one of the world’s greatest wildernesses on our doorstep, everything at 1887 comes together as one to create the ultimate Scottish dining experience.
