Herd But Not Seen: David Beckham and The Torridon Highland Cows

Wester Ross has been astir with David Beckham sitings this month, some real, most imaginary.

Dressed oddly in full dinner suit while prowling the Highland glens, the former England footballer and manly fashion icon was shooting a commercial for Diageo’s new Haig Club whisky.

Much though we admire Beckham, we know the real stars of the advert – when it comes to a screen near you – will be The Torridon Highland cattle.

They may not have earned their Equity cards yet, but the herd showed poise and composure in front of the camera and resisted goring any of the cast or crew.

During their big moment – Beckham in absentia – the cows were coached onto their marks while a ‘hitch hiker’ wound his way between them.

Two takes and it was a wrap, as we say in Highland film-and-herding circles.

Film buffs looking to reprise the role of the hitch hiker are strongly requested to contact the hotel reception.
