This weekend we led our first snow hole trip of the year. On Saturday we headed over to Cairn Gorm, with the sun blazing, for a cracking walk up onto the plateau. During the walk-in we had great views into the coires and out towards Aviemore. We then started to cross the plateau, creating not a single foot print. By about 12.30 we made it to the site where we spent a chilled out afternoon clearing out our snow hole. As the evening arrived, we headed inside and got the stove going. Hot tea was brewed and dinner was served including treacle pudding. As usual we enjoyed a warm night’s sleep. A lot of snow fell over the entrance during the night but a quick couple of shovel swings and we were out. But first we enjoyed breakfast (beans and sausages) and plenty of tea. Sunday wasn’t such a great day with high winds and a fair bit of snow flying around but luckily for us it was all on our backs. Crampons were donned and we strided our way back to the car park in plenty of time for tea and medals.
