This week we have been out and about in the snow. Our main aim was to find ideal locations for the forthcoming winter skills courses we have running; a simple enough business due to all the snow we have had. We spent the day walking up Sgurr Dubh which is opposite Beinn Eighe and Liathach, practicing our own skills and spending time looking around. We found a cracking set of little gullies that will be ideal for the course and a perfect slope for the ice axe arrest skills.
We then cracked on with the emergency shelters, trying different areas to see what would best suit. We found so much snow we ended up digging an entire snow hole, pretty good considering we were only looking for enough for a quick shelter. The best part of the whole day however was the location; we had stags and deer either side of us and mountain hare foot prints everywhere.
