This week we have been busy with outdoor staff training. On Tuesday Chris was out kayaking on a grade 3/4 river near Helmsdale. It was good with some interesting rapids on the way down. His SPOT location can be seen here. Chris and I were, once again, to be found up a snow-covered mountain. This time it was the horseshoe of Sgurr a Mhuilinn. We had a steady climb onto the ridge watched by some deer. Once on the ridge we were able to see the mountain stretch before us and decided to practice our navigation in case conditions changed. As we came off the first ridge onto the saddle, the cloud dropped giving us almost white-out conditions. We continued to navigate round the hill, aiming for two peaks off to the side. Once we got there however time was getting short and we decided to leave them for another day. The snow was knee-deep or more and we had a long descent back to the car. As we got onto the second ridge onto Sgurr a Mhuilinn the cloud rose and gave us some fantastic views of the surrounding area.
